Instagram is a prime example of effective viral marketing and visual rhetoric. There are many social media websites that are commonly used. However, most young adults have turned most of their attention to one or two websites. Snapchat and Instagram are currently the two most popular social media platforms. Because of this, companies have figured out a method to get free advertising from their consumers. One example of this would be a company known as Her Campus. This organization recently visited Florida State University and had students take pictures with Her Campus merchandise. Additionally, they requested students to follow them on Instagram as well. This method of marketing allows the consumers to give them free advertising, and gives the companies less work to do. Many companies have now employed this tactic, and are making millions from online communication on social media websites. Therefore, this is an example of viral marketing.
