Blog #5: BBG Chapter 5

It can be easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of topics one could write about. This is why I like the idea of brainstorming my ideas by doing freewriting. In the Bedford Book of Genres, it describes freewriting as a way to write down whatever pops into your head first to figure out ideas for a topic. Basically, freewriting is similar to writing a shitty first draft. The point of it is to not worry about being concise or correct. You just need to let out all of your crazy ideas on paper, in order to figure out which topics you are interested in. I feel like repeating this process would narrow down topics for a composition, because if you find yourself elaborating on a certain topic, then that would be the best one for you to use. It shows that you have a deeper interest in that topic, and would enjoy doing research related to it. The only potential issue I could see with using the freewriting method is having too many ideas to choose from.
